About Us

Department of Communication Studies


The Department of Communication (DIKOM), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Gadjah Mada University was established in 1950. Since its establishment, DIKOM has undergone several name changes, namely the Department of Publicity and the Department of Communication Studies (JIK). At the time of its inception, DIKOM only managed the Undergraduate Program (Strata-1 / S1) until in 2008, DIKOM held a postgraduate program (Strata-S2 / S2).

DIKOM's learning material has a wide range, both related to the study of journalism, public relations, advertising, and entertainment media. At present, DIKOM has great attention to the development of communication and digital media. This concern prompted DIKOM to develop a learning curriculum and also research that had links with these developments.
