Undergraduate Student Activities

Undergraduate students of Communication Science can be actively involved in various organizations in the Communication Science Department, the Faculty, and the UGM Student Activity Units. The Communication Science Department Student Association (HMJ) becomes a special organization for undergraduate students of Communication Science. The HMJ is called KOMAKO, under which is the Semi-Autonomous Body.

KOMAKO stands for Communication Student Corps (Korp Mahasiswa Komunikasi). This organization was founded in 1982 with the aim of cultivating intellectual values, channeling aspirations, becoming a forum for creation, interests, and talents of Communication Science’ Students

In designing and implementing its programs, KOMAKO adheres to the principles of Pancasila (the Indonesian state philosophy) and always relies on the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education comprising Education, Research and Community Service). The work program is directed as best as possible to suit the needs and aspirations of undergraduate students of the Communication Science Department as members of the KOMAKO.

Semi-Autonomous Agency (BSO) under KOMAKO, namely: Kine, PPC, DeADline, and PRemiere.

  1. Kinekom UGM (Kine)
    Kine is BSO that concentrates on the field of film. Kine is the first student film community in Yogyakarta. Initially, Kine's activities were limited to film appreciation through film screening and discussions about the world of film. However, along with the times and changes in management, an idea emerged to produce films as a forum for student expression and creation. Without losing their initial goal as a film appreciator, now Kine is active in producing short films and is pioneering their participation in various student film competitions.
  2. Publisia Photo Club
    Publisia Photo Club which is often abbreviated as PPC is the oldest BSO in the UGM Department of Communication. PPC is a BSO that has activities in the world of photography and implements collective membership so that it allows anyone to be able to participate in any activity in it—as long as they are within the academic scope of the UGM Department of Communication. Every year, PPC always conducts its work programs regularly, such as Basic training, PPC Day, basic exhibition, joint photo hunting, photography classes with professional photographers, and so on. The members' photographic works are published through the exhibition as well as uploaded via social media.
  3. DeADline
    DeADline is engaged in advertising. DeADline has routine activities ranging from gathering with members (#DeADday) to share experiences, coaching classes, and discussing advertising competition briefs. This last activity is carried out especially ahead of joint production and/or approaching competition. This activity involved lecturers and DeADline seniors who have more experience in advertising competitions. Since its establishment in 2008, DeADline has often made achievements.
  4. PRemiere
    PRemiere is a BSO that focuses on the field of Public Relations (PR). The new BSO, which was founded in 2012, has various work programs that aim to hone the professional skills and knowledge of its members about the world of public relations (PR). Examples of PRemiere programs include PR practice classes, workshops, alumni sharing, company visits, and manner class. Apart from supporting the academic abilities of its members, PRemiere's activities also contribute to building an internship network with various companies.
